‘Going
beyond creating jobs …to creating futures.’ these words
aptly encapsulate the Saud Bahwan Group’s attitude towards
the national priority of Omanisation.
At Saud Bahwan Group, Omanisation is not just providing jobs
to Omanis. It is an ongoing process - aimed at creation of fulfilling, lifelong careers.
The Omanisation directives are implemented by a special
‘Personnel and Omanisation’ department - the first of its
kind in the private sector. This department oversees the
recruitment, training, motivation & welfare of over 2300
Omani staff spread all over the country. Playing meaningful
roles in all functional areas including sales & marketing,
service & parts, customer care, advertising, accounts,
audit, instalment credit, administration, warehousing and
computer services.
Imparting skills and improving the performance and
productivity of employees is a top priority at Saud Bahwan
Group. To bring about the desired results, the group has set
up a Training Centre, which has been in operation for over
two decades now. This facility has expanded to include a
greater number of classrooms, facilities and qualified
trainers.
Practical demonstration and classroom training form the
backbone of learning. Saud Bahwan Group has provided modern
tools, equipment and training aids, together with a
realistic working environment for the benefit of Omanis.
Over the years, over 600 qualified technicians, mechanics,
painters and dentors, have emerged out of the portals of the
Saud Bahwan Group Training Centre, duly primed with the
skills to succeed. The best amongst these are also sent for
overseas training, to add an international edge to their
skills set.
The Training Centre also provides instruction to Omani
nationals for spare parts retailing activities. Two full
time certified instructors impart the curriculum extending
over eighteen months. Covering occupational areas such as
parts catalogue reading, retail sales operations,
warehousing and computer systems. Innovative tools such as
computer simulations are also used to impart modern logistic
concepts such as ‘just in time’
Given the high quality of training and facilities, the Saud
Bahwan Group Training Centre has received wide acclaim and
remains the only technical training facility in Oman to be
awarded the Grade-1 ranking by the British Adult Learning
Inspectorate (ALI) as well as being recognised by the most
authoritative training body in the United Kingdom - the
Institute of Motor Industry. While handing over the ‘IMI
International Award for training excellence, the Chief
Executive remarked, “Saud Bahwan Group’s training standards
are the best that we have seen outside the U.K.
Another training facility set up by Saud Bahwan Group is the
DOJO facility at the Central Parts Warehouse. DOJO in
Japanese means a place for training and practice, with not
only skills training but also training of the body and the
mind. Here, an Omani warehouse trainee repeatedly practices
until he reaches perfection under the guidance of his
trainer in a one to one relationship.
Given the large presence of Omanis in every functional
sphere, the need was felt to extend the scope of training
beyond technical realms. The Group therefore, set up the
Advanced Learning Centre – a specialised training arm
assigned with tailor-making sales & marketing programmes for
Omani nationals. Besides these courses, the Centre exposes
employees to a strategic, focused combination of team
exercises, role-plays and encourages participation in an
open forum for exchange of new ideas.
Training apart, Saud Bahwan Group is also involved in the
creation of a fulfilling working environment for Omani
employees. The Group has instituted various incentive
schemes that reward ability and commitment. As well as
encouraging effective practices and performance. Between 400
to 500 Omani staff receive these monthly/quarterly
incentives every year.
With such a list of achievements under the belt, is it any
wonder that the accolades keep flowing in? The coveted Green
Card from the Ministry of Manpower in recognition of Saud
Bahwan Group’s outstanding Omanisation record - for the last
seven years in a row. The GCC award for excellence in
Omanisation; the prestigious Omanisation award from H. E.
Juma Bin Ali Bin Juma, the Minister of Manpower…
And while the awards may go on, for Saud Bahwan Group, the
greatest reward is the chance to make a small but meaningful
contribution to this vital national priority.
